As her 30th Birthday approaches, Landyn Bowers takes a reflective look back on the hard lessons she has had to learn to survive through her 20s. The Lessons I’ve Paid For is an honest and vulnerable glimpse inside the human psyche. This collection poetry is made up of experiences is captured in real-time through the course of a decade. Landyn takes the reader on the journey through moving to Maine, graduating college, joining the workforce as a teacher, and surviving through the trials of early adulthood, all while exploring her relationship with her body, her community, and herself in a world that feels too unstable to navigate.

In the fall of 2018, Landyn Bowers had the journey of a lifetime. She flew from her home in Maine to Berlin, Germany where she started her adventure to circumnavigate the globe. Alongside nearly 600 other students, Landyn boarded a ship with Semester at Sea and aloud her passion for knowledge and wanderlust take the wheel. In the course of 120 days, she studied 12 countries, visiting each and discovering the history and culture of everywhere that she went. She walked the streets in Barcelona, Spain and learned about the consequences of Apartheid in Cape Town, South Africa. She saw diversity in Port Louis, Mauritius, found forgiveness in Ho Chi Man, Vietnam and so much more. She documented her experience in her poetry, determined to capture the moments and lessons she was learning. Around the World and Back Again, is the story of a voyage in self-discovery, an exploration into diverse world, an examination of perspective and a quest for the definition of home.
